In The Mood's Film Forecast ๐ฎ
Our team's 2025 ins, outs, and must watches. Plus: our favourite David Lynch pieces from the archive and an interview with WASTEOFTASTE's Marc Basque.
A Note from the Editor
I always find the end of January, and not the beginning, to be a sort of reset. Already-broken New Yearโs resolutions rejigged, winter blues fully sinking in post-holidays, but then thankfully noticing the sun setting just a little later than before. And the cold days of January mean you have an excuse to stay in and maybe do something youโve been putting off: dig up the dusty art supplies, the long book youโve been avoiding, the multi-step recipe, the blindspot film you just never have time for.
This particular January was certainly A Lotโwe donโt have to tell you why, weโre all still going through it! Nearly two weeks ago, we lost David Lynch and the outpouring of appreciation for one of filmโs most singular figures hasnโt abated. His life and work were a lesson in living and creating as authentically as possible while we still have time. Below, we have included two pieces from our archive about two of Lynchโs most challenging works, Inland Empire and Dune.
We donโt have a crystal ball, but we do have the next best (worst?) thing: a team of very online people with lots of thoughts and no filter about whatโs coming up next in the film and pop culture landscape. We have collected our must-watch lists and a list of film trends we are willing to be in and praying will be out.
And in case you missed it: weโve revamped our newsletter to a monthly missive, exclusive to paid subscribers. All paid subscriptions will go directly towards contributor honorariums and operating costs for In The Mood Magazine, which is free and volunteer-run. If youโd like to support what we do, weโre offering a 20% discount until the end of January! Thanks so much ๐ซถ
